Offering community-defined alternatives for health and wellbeing
Trauma can have devastating effects on a child’s physiology, emotions, ability to think, learn, concentrate, impulse control, self-image, and relationships with others. This impact can be addressed through trauma-informed healing practices. We offer practices that are based on culturally-rooted healing as a way to identify strengths so that we can become our full, actualized selves.
Our work focuses on reducing racial disparities, destigmatizing seeking support for mental health services, increasing access to care for youth and children in need, and focusing on prevention and early intervention. When systems stop seeing behavior as simple disobedience and begin to see it as a potential signal of much deeper distress - they can begin to build the partnerships needed to help students and families heal. When healing happens, the intergenerational chain of suffering is broken.
